What is an HDPE pond liner?
An HDPE pond liner is a high-density polyethylene geomembrane installed across the prepared basin to limit water movement into or out of the ground. It is specified as part of a lining system, not as an isolated roll of plastic.
The design should identify the membrane grade and dimensions, how adjacent panels are joined, how the liner terminates at the crest, and how pipes or structures pass through it. A quotation cannot replace that engineering definition.
How an HDPE liner works
- Panels form the barrier. Sheets cover the bed and banks with planned overlaps and transitions.

When to use HDPE
HDPE is a candidate for irrigation storage, aquaculture ponds, attenuation basins, wastewater lagoons, and other engineered impoundments when the project team wants a geomembrane system with controlled panel joining. It is generally easier to justify when the basin can be properly prepared and the installer has adequate working access.
Use extra care where the pond is very small, highly sculpted, crowded with penetrations, or expected to settle unevenly. In those cases an EPDM system may be simpler to form, though the full details still decide the outcome.
